Pumpkin spice season is finally upon us, and Starbucks is wasting no time getting in on the action. Every Thursday from Sept. 7 until Sept. 28, the coffee giant will be running a buy-one-get-one offer on its fall drink lineup. To receive the free drinks, you'll need to download the Starbucks app and create an account. The offer can only be redeemed once per week, and cannot be used on drinks that cost more than $10. Starbucks' iconic Pumpkin Spice Latte is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

Data shows a 2,200% increase in pumpkin spice items for sale. On Wednesday, Starbucks announced that its fall lineup, which includes its famous pumpkin spice latte, will be released on Thursday, August 24. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the pumpkin spice latte's release. Over the past decade, the latest date Starbucks released the fall lineup was in 2015, when the lineup dropped on September 8. Competing coffee chain Dunkin' reintroduced its fall lineup on August 16.

As Starbucks celebrates the 20th anniversary of its pumpkin spice latte, the coffee chain is adding a third pumpkin drink to its fall menu. Starting Thursday, the iced pumpkin cream chai latte joins the company's existing pumpkin lineup, which also includes the pumpkin cream cold brew, returning for its fifth year. The seasonal menu addition comes as Starbucks customers increasingly choose cold drinks over hot options, no matter the temperature outside. Starbucks' more upscale Reserve locations, which also serve alcohol, will serve special pumpkin spice drinks for the first time, too. The Reserve fall menu includes a pumpkin spice espresso martini, playing off the espresso martini craze, and a pumpkin spice whiskey barrel-aged iced latte.

Iced drinks now make up about 70% of Starbucks' sales, Schultz said, and they're particularly popular with younger Gen Z and Millenial customers, driving sales growth. To better accommodate this demand for iced drinks, Starbucks unveiled new, faster methods of making cold brew and frappuccinos at investor day. The company is adding its new proprietary Siren System that it says will cut the time and effort needed to make cold drinks. The Siren System includes a custom ice dispenser, milk dispenser, and faster blenders to expedite the process of making frappuccinos and other cold drinks. The process to make a grande Pink Drink will go from 52 seconds and 11 steps to 24 seconds and 9 steps, Starbucks says.
